I want to respond to a message from the future.

If someone asked you, "Do you think the future of the Earth is bright?" how would you answer?

Based on data from the EPA (United States Environmental Protection Agency), Bill Gates proposes that there are " five key issues " to avoid a catastrophic future caused by global warming and other factors.

The largest source of greenhouse gas emissions is electricity generation (coal, oil, gas) at 25%

・[Agriculture] The biggest problem is livestock farming. Not only carbon dioxide but also carbon monoxide emissions from nitrogen fertilizers are a problem (24%)

[Manufacturing] Not only fossil fuels as a heat source, but also plastics emit greenhouse gases when they decompose in the ocean, accounting for 21% of the greenhouse gas emissions.

[Transportation] While the development of low-emission vehicles continues, the use of fossil fuels in airplanes, trucks, cargo ships, etc. is causing major damage (14%)

- [Buildings] As urban populations grow, the demand for electricity for heating and lighting will increase, leading to an increase in the amount of alternative fluorocarbons emitted by refrigerators and air conditioners (6%)

(Reference: EPA/Global Greenhouse Gas Emissions Data)

And he adds that "no solution works in isolation."

Global warming is not the only issue that cannot be addressed alone. It is no exaggeration to say that all the problems the world faces today, including poverty and hunger, health and welfare, education, industry and urban development, gender and human rights, and issues of war and peace, are all intertwined and connected. There is great significance and determination behind the establishment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to be tackled by countries around the world, transcending their respective positions.

PEC Toyama strives to share information so that we can move forward together by discussing what kind of world we want for our children's future in 2030 and 2050, and share this message from the future. In addition, by forming partnerships with people in different positions, we hope to create and coordinate spaces that can serve as clues for putting ideas into practice, and contribute to the achievement of the SDGs from areas where we can see faces and hear voices.
